I remember being asked to be a part of the media and content writing team for the 2021 publication of Dubai based Xtrastyle Magazine themed: "Black Creatives- Shaping Culture, from Africa to the UAE". Now, I personally had been sitting on an article idea on (Art-a-porta) ‘Wearable Art’. Those pieces and bits of creativity that are exhibited/worn on our bodies, either tangible clothing materials, jewellery, body tattoos or cultural marking. This idea, I put together, focussing on the wearable artwork of the esteemed Wale Oyejide’s “Ikire Jones”, the brand, for context. For logistic reasons, this article never made it to publication and I figure I would post it here for the benefit of my newsletter readers.
I am also sharing for free, this link to the complete article Black Creatives - Shaping Culture from Africa to the UAE named so for the purpose of the publication for which it was written but which I prefer to call Art-a-Porta (more appropriately), for my subscribers to say thank you for sticking with me through thick and thin.
